Privacy — The North Game

The short version

There is no account, no login and no server-side profile of you.
Your scores, callsign and progression are written to your own browser and never uploaded.
No expedition talks to the network once its page has loaded.
The site sets no cookies of any kind and runs no analytics or advertising tags.
Page fonts are requested from Google, which is the one third party your browser contacts.

What stays on your device

All of it lives in your browser's localStorage under this site's own origin. It is readable only by this site, it is never transmitted, and clearing your browser's site data erases it permanently — there is no copy on any server to restore from.

A callsign is whatever you type into the box. It is a label on a local scoreboard, so there is no reason to make it your real name — and we would rather you did not.

What the server sees

The site has no API and no database. It hands your browser HTML, CSS, JavaScript and images, and nothing you do inside a game is ever sent back. As with any web server, the request itself is recorded in standard access logs: your IP address, the page requested, the time, your browser's user-agent string and the page you arrived from.

Those logs exist to keep the server running and to investigate abuse. They are not joined to any profile, not sold, and not shared except where the law requires it. They are retained for 30 days and then deleted.

Fonts

Typography is loaded from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). Making that request discloses your IP address and user-agent to Google, which may process it outside Canada. No cookie is set by it. If you block those hosts the site falls back to your system typefaces and everything still works.

Cookies, analytics and advertising

There are none. This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics, embeds no advertising or social tags, and has no third-party scripts other than the font request described above. That is why you have not been shown a cookie banner.

If that ever changes — an advertising measurement tag being the likely reason — the banner will appear, nothing will load until you have answered it, and this page will be rewritten to describe exactly what was added before it is switched on.

Children

The North Game is a general-audience site and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from them, and because there is no account system there is nothing for a child to sign up to. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through the contact addresses, write to hello@thenorthgame.com and we will delete it.

Your rights

Most privacy rights concern data a company holds about you. We hold almost none: your records never leave your browser, so you exercise access, correction and erasure directly — open the site, clear your site data, and it is gone.

Access and portability — your records are plain JSON in your own browser storage.
Erasure — clearing site data deletes everything, with no server-side copy left behind.
Withdraw consent — the cookie settings control, on every page, at any time.
Complain — in Canada to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner; in the EEA or UK to your local supervisory authority.

Changes and contact

Material changes get a new effective date at the top of this page, and anything that adds data collection is switched on only after the description of it is published here first.
